"My heart stopped:" How Audrey Fisher Became a Queen in Six: THE MUSICAL

July 18th, 2023

By Peter Bialkowski

New York City is full of a lot; tourist attractions, restaurants, and billion dollar industries. It's also one of the main headquarters for actors that all share the same dream. All it takes is for one audition, one opportunity, or one day for the stars to align to make that dream come true - something Audrey Fisher is starting to experience.

The singer, dancer, actor got recently cast as a Rehearsal Swing in SIX: The Musical (my personal favorite musical) on the Norwegian Bliss Cruise Line 6.0 cast list this past February. She grew up in Lakeland, Florida, where her love for musical theatre began. At age 12, her cousin introduced her to the television series Glee, and lit up a lightbulb - performing is what she wanted to do with her life.

"I didn't know you could do that for a living back then," she says. "My music teacher inspired me to audition for an arts high school in our area."

Graduating from the same school in 2018, Fisher then attended Ithaca College, where she got her degree in Musical Theatre back in 2022. She then took the plunge and moved to New York City to start one of the hardest parts of the entertainment industry: auditions.

In August of 2022, Audrey found her new home in Brooklyn, and was hired as a Brand Ambassador at the Museum of Broadway in Times Square. With no agent, finding a professional acting job is no easy task. After a few months of auditioning, she booked her first professional gig as a Swing in The Scarlet Pimpernel at the Engeman Theater in Long Island.

"It was a really cool experience," she says. "I got to wear cool corsets and steam-punk wigs!"

Around the same time, Audrey was attending conventions and classes, where she was learning from seasoned professionals. One of these conventions is where she met Ayla Ciccone-Burton, a Swing in SIX: The Musical on Broadway, who was teaching dance combos from the show. She quickly became obsessed and saw the show on Broadway multiple times. Almost immediately after the convention, she saw a casting call for Six online - for the Norwegian cruise line. She decided to submit an online audition - and all of the stars aligned. After several auditions, Audrey was sitting on the subway back to Brooklyn when she got the email.

"My heart stopped," she says. "I literally had to grab the wall."

She had been cast as a rehearsal swing for the sixth cast of the Norwegian Bliss cruise line. A rehearsal swing acts as an emergency understudy. They learn the entire show, but don't go on the ship.

Learning the roles of Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard, Audrey was officially inducted into the Queendom. While you probably won't see her on the Bliss Cruise ship this year, you never know what the future holds. Once you're in the Queendom, the opportunities are endless.
